Project Description:

As an interior designer, most of my assignments involve transforming existing, often poorly designed spaces into more functional and aesthetically pleasing ones, or adapting them to meet changing needs. The Room of the Year 2025 competition provided an opportunity to envision not just the interior, but the very “framework” of the space itself – this gave rise to the idea of designing a spacious, airy, bright room with excellent qualities. A key element was connecting the interior with nature. The large, unobstructed windows provide a wide view, allowing the openness of the outside space to flow inside through sheer curtains that highlight the blue sky. Inside, the elegant, well-organized interior is grounded in nature by elements such as the decorative natural tree branch and the log table, which also serve as anchor points in the airy, bright room. These are beautifully contrasted by the pendant light fixture above. In such a large space, balance is especially important. The imposing leather seating is softened by abstract artworks placed on the walls – two on one side and one on the other. This grouping of three is echoed by the large-scale plant decorations: two positioned behind the lounging and reading area, and one in the corner next to the paintings. I applied the same triad concept to the ceiling lighting as well, both in layout and fixture selection. To counterbalance the orderliness of the space, I introduced variation with mismatched side tables, intentionally different table lamps, an arched floor lamp, and the powder-colored wall panels. The rugs, cushions, throw, and the friendly glow of the fireplace all add warmth and a touch of playfulness. I believe that through balance, soft colors, spaciousness, natural and recycled wood elements, and a playful atmosphere, this elegant space has been made truly pleasant.
