Introduction

My name is Katalin Pálffy, and I am a qualified HR economist. I worked for a headhunting company for a year and a half before moving to Chicago due to my partner’s work, where I spent four years working for a flower design company. After returning home, I continued working in this field as a self-employed professional for several years, until a serious health issue prompted me to reconsider which other field would allow me to express my creativity and passion for design with less physical strain. As several acquaintances had already approached me regarding apartment and retail space renovations and transformations, it became clear that a career in interior design was the right choice for me.

Graduation project summary:

Harmony and Functionality in One Home: Family Living and an Apartment Restaurant in a Shared Space

The project combines a three-level living space tailored to the needs of a four-member family with a ground-floor apartment restaurant. On the ground level, a welcoming, French-style brunch venue was created, while the upper floor features a Bauhaus-inspired, bright, and functional living area where a home office, relaxation spaces, and children’s rooms blend harmoniously. Open, transparent layouts, abundant natural light, and warm, home-like materials ensure both style and practicality. Every detail of the apartment is designed to support the family’s daily life and hospitality needs, resulting in a space that is elegant, cozy, and highly functional. The ground-floor restaurant provides opportunities for shared cooking and social gatherings, while the private zones upstairs offer calm and personalized comfort for each family member. The project is a strong example of how family life, hospitality, and functionality can be seamlessly integrated within a single building.
